Congrats to Wolcott for their AD Monroe getting AD of the year. Add the fact that Pace got coach of the year and it makes for a great year for Wolcott. By the way their school is overachieving as well Academically, Educationally and athletically. Great to see.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Coach Pace. He is very deserving. Wolcott did a great job selecting an educated, classy guy who actually knows something about football. Wolcott has a bright future because of that staff.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the nvl kids for this well deserve honor. Also congrats to Coach Pace for coach of the year.
ReplyDeleteGetting better. Up to 4 OL on the 1st and 2nd teams. Why not up the highest vote getter on 2 to 1 and the 2 highest on 3 to 2? Then fill in the 3 highest HMs on the 3rd team? What's everybody got vs. OLs?
ReplyDeleteYou were a running back. Whats your problem? C'mon DW.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all of the local kids that made this team. Way to represent the league.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, Montrell Dobbs is a Temple Owl. He'll start classes next week.
I guess that's better news than Marshall?
Can any of you explain how Temple could get him in and UCONN couldn't.
ReplyDeleteBecause former Cheshire head coach Steve Addazio is a better recruiter than former Cheshire asst caoach Pasqualoni. The Matakevich kid from St. Joe's is going to Temple also I believe.
ReplyDeleteWe know now that he landed at Temple, but the rumors were strong that Marshall would get him. I don't get how they were even in the conversation seeing as though Marshall is a FBS participant out of Conference USA.
ReplyDeleteI wish nothing but the best of luck to Montrell Dobbs. To outsiders it might seem that the young man is taking the Kenny Tinney course to playing college football but for those of us who know him that's not the case at all. If it wasn't for circumstances beyond his control he would be enrolled at UConn. He is a dedicated, intelligent, respectful young man who deserves whatever good fortunes are bestowed upon him. Give him a chance. He'll make the NVL proud.
ReplyDeleteTemple isn't an fcs school.
ReplyDeleteSurprised Lytton got first team at DB. Wright is better at DB then him in my opionion.
What is the great academic news about Wolcott?
Anybody here anything on the fight at the Wilby-Ansonia game? WR didn't have anything on it.
How could Temple get him in when UCONN couldn't? It sounds like FBS to me!
ReplyDeleteCaptain O, Uconn has a higher academic standard than most. Uconn cannot sign partial qualifiers but schools like Boise st, Marshall and temple can.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said it better myself Thevoice. The only thing that matters is that he's getting a college education and playing D1 football. He's chasing and dream. He's made us all very proud. Temple signed two good players who are great kids. I wish Mont and Tyler nothing but success.
ReplyDeleteTemple has one of the finest medical schools in the world. It is every bit the academic institution that Uconn is.
ReplyDeleteTemple's footall program is on the rise. The head coach before Addazio got there did a great job recruiting and putting Temple back on the map. Coach Addazio is more than capable to take that program to the next level.
Mr NVL you should be more surprised he didnt make it for RB.

addazio was pulling kids out of ct. forever----syracuse and then florida.florida fans came down on him for some reason and he was let go.temple is definitely not the temple of past.addazio will continue to recruit big in ct.
ReplyDeleteEach Conference has it's own set of rules on accepting non-qualifying athletes. The MAC schools can accept a non-qualifying athlete. A non-qualifier can still enroll at a school under NCAA rules, but he isn't eligible to play his first year. According to some reports, there may still be a chance Montrell is eligible for 2012. If not, he will have to sit out until 2013 and have three years of eligibility. It is my understanding that should he complete his degree on time, he would earn a fourth year of eligibility. The Big East does not permit non-qualifiers to enroll. That sums it up. Temple is on the rise and it should be a great fit.
ReplyDeleteBest of Luck Montrell.
Addazio is going to to do very well there. I understand that schools have different academic standards and is a tricky thing for today's athletes. But I'm sure we all know that these kids need to take their academics seriously from frosh to sr yr not just thier jr and sr years. I was also suprised to see Lytton as a DB but there are politics that go with all state teams and its a good thing he made it some where.
ReplyDeleteNot true Shot. Played guard. Was 20 lbs heavier then.
ReplyDeleteYo Voice, ever hear flip side of 'Pretty Little Angel Eyes' (Curtis Lee and the Halos)? Hey, it's the off-season.
ReplyDeletei knew u were a lineman lol dw
ReplyDeleteLet's take it easy with the praising of Wolcott's academics. The campaign for Jay Pace as Coach of The Year (which I began around week four) was a success. He's now a Wolcott legend, both as player and coach.
ReplyDeletered is that all it takes to be a wolcott legend?lol he did a great job no doubt, lets let it play out for a couple years to get a better
ReplyDeleteeval on him as a coach.one thing about coaching is your only one bad loss from unleashing the dogs.
Yo Drake, you were a guard for the Gaels? Your stock is skyrocketing with me!
ReplyDeleteA little over a year ago I said the Dobbs was not a D1 prospect. I said that I thought he was to small and to slow. I am happy to admit I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteYo DWDrake, "Gee How I Wish You Were Here" is the flip side of "Pretty Little Angel Eyes". It has a great falsetto by Curtis Lee throughout the song and in my opinion is as good if not better than the "A" side.
ReplyDeleteFor the local guys interested in attending the Ansonia Championship Banquet, please go to the following link:

I remember that as well Cliff. I knew you were wrong and like you glad you were wrong. I hope he and Tyler go up there and represent CT very well. Both on and off the field I have no doubts these young men will perform well.
ReplyDeleteYo Voice, you are right on. I concur completely.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Red check your CAPT scores. You have been designated as a model school. I am sure that hardly matters to you. You are worried about where the next hot toddy is coming from. I am sure that Jay Pace is indebted to you for all your promotion of him this year.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a fact for years that if a terrific offensive back (such as Brenden Lytton)deserves all-state recognition but there is already an abundance of backs picked for the O side of the ball, they put him on the team as a D back as long as he played some defense during the year.
ReplyDeleteLytton should have been an rb on that team. I get the whole politic thing but look at his stats compared to the other rb's.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, RR. When I saw Lytton listed as a DB, it shocked me.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Lytton going to college?
ReplyDeleteLytton has heard from CCSU,SCSU and Monmouth University and Milford Academy
ReplyDeleteWalter Camp breakfast on Saturday morning. Brockett p for coachof the year, Newsome for state player of the year, Chargers being honored for Class M championship, and All CT team, at least 4 Chargers on it. Interested tosee the entire team.
ReplyDeleteWhile I may be corrected on this, believe the issue of academic standards is one of BCS conferences versus everyone else. At least that is what has been reported in the Hartford Courant re Dobbs.
ReplyDeleteSo it is not an issue of UConn having higher academic standards. They're just playing along with their peers because they have to.
Looking at the baskeball program to understand what their academic standards are.
It's not pretty.

Can we settle whether Newsome led the nation in rushing?
ReplyDeleteReported that way by Sean Patrick Bowley on 5 January.
He also reported Arkeel named first-team Max Preps RB nationally for sophomores.
Would be nice to see that acknowledged here.
We settled this weeks ago. Here's a copy of my post:
ReplyDelete"Not sure who posted this before, but Arkeel Newsome did not end up leading the nation in rushing. Joseph Sadler from Devine, Texas, finished with 3,887 yards to Newsome's 3,763. Sadler also led the nation with 451 points. Newsome was tied for fourth with 388 points. http://www.maxpreps.com/list/leaderboard_list.aspx?state=All%20States§ionid=-Select-&leagueid=-Select-&teamsize=0&teamtype=player&leaguetype=overall&category=offense,rushing&position=-All-&classyear=-All-&ssid=f28cd02d-9746-48e9-a74b-fffef375b19a"
Since I posted it on Dec. 27, there were some stat adjustments that put Johnathan Gray atop the leaderboard.
Congrats to Martin,Newsome and Vano for making Walter Camp All-CT team for offense and Woods for defense.
ReplyDeleteAlso Newsome for WC Player of the year
KindOfBlue I looked into this because no one seemed to have a difinitive answer as to why Dobbs could attend some FBS schools but not others. I thought it may have been a BCS thing as well. I found that each Conference has full autonomy in how they handle non-qualifiers. Most of the BCS Conferences do not. One that does allow non-qualifiers....The SEC. Those schools have made it a habit of recruiting a kid who was highly rated out of HS, but couldn't qualify. They follow him through a Prep or JUCO year then bring them in. It likely explains why the SEC has the best teams and NFL prospects in the country every year. Based on what I read the SEC schools can accept two (2) non-qualifiers per year. Those athletes can not player for one year. They have three years of eligibility remaining. They can earn a fourth year if they graduate on time (within four years of enrolling).
ReplyDeleteKsoldra goog stuff. Does Dobbs still have to qualify academiclly. I understand he is in school right now. I think he has a great opportunity to play there. I guess Uconn does not risk non qualifiers or can not take them.
ReplyDeleteAt this point from what I've read, both Montrell and Coach Addazio are unsure whether he will be eligible for 2012. There have been so many rumors as to why he didn't qualify but no definitive answer. Either way, he has a great opportunity to play there for an exceptional head coach. Whether he plays this year or next, I expect him to have an immediate impact. It's wait and see at this point. He seems focused and determined to succeed. As we've all seen, when he's focused and determined, there is nothing stopping Montrell.
ReplyDeleteBig East schools do not accept non-qualifiers.
ReplyDeleteTemple students begin school tomorrow. Dobbs moved in today, I heard. The very best of luck to him academically and athletically speaking.
ReplyDeleteI am working at Temple but could not get cheesesteaks with he and his family! Sad but true!
Geno's or Pat's?
ReplyDeletePat's, all day.
ReplyDeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteRemmy - Just don't become an Eagles' fan!
ReplyDeleteSurprised Manetti is leaving HC. Last year he said he needed to spend more time with family. Good luck in the new job...will be missed.
